Kingdom Law - Change log

Kingdom Law was due for a bit of an update due to the changes needed to comply with changes to SCANZ's constitution. We have made typographical updates for proper nouns, added or removed commas where needed, corrected names of organisations. Numbering updated to decimal. Paragraphs have been broken into individual referancable rules.More substantial changes are noted below.

Definitions

I.5 Member

We have more types of people that we recognise as members. We have specified which type of membership is needed where relevant.

I.6 Seneschal

I.12 (now 1.9) Steward

I.13 (now 1.10) Sovereign

Allows for non-combat tournament formats in the future.

The Law

II.1 Precedence of the Law

The Order of Precedence of the Law shall be as defined in the governing documents of the SCA.

II.3 Changes to the Law

II.3.i (now 2.3.1) Proposed Laws

Was
Proposed laws are any changes or additions proposed for these Laws. The Crown must present all proposed laws to the Seneschal. The Seneschal is required to provide advice to the Crown within 60 days of receiving the proposed law. Once the Seneschal has provided advice to the Crown on the proposed law or the 60 days has expired, the Crown may act to proclaim and publish the law change.

  1. Proposed Laws are any changes or additions proposed for these Laws.
  2. The Crown must present all proposed Laws to the Kingdom Seneschal.
  3. The Kingdom Seneschal will provide advice in a timely manner, and seek the approval of any proposed Law changes from the Board of SCA Ltd and Committee of SCANZ within 60 days.
  4. Once the Kingdom Seneschal has provided confirmation of approval, the Crown may act to proclaim and publish the law change.
Functional change
Kingdom Law changes must be approved by the Board of SCA Ltd and Committee of SCANZ before they can come into effect.
Reason for change
Kingdom Law must be consistent with all of the governing documents above it - it must be approved by the Board and Committee as it is officer policy - the Crown being an officer of SCANZ.

II.3.ii (now 2.3.2) Proclamation and publication of Law changes

Changes to these Laws shall be announced by the Crown at an official event and shall take effect immediately.

  • within three months, a copy of the changes in Pegasus
Pending publication as described above, a Law change officially announced by the Crown may be presumed to continue in effect for up to three months of Their Successor’s reign, unless altered by a new Law change.
Laws changes not correctly published within the timeframes described above are automatically rescinded.

II.4 (now 2.4) Publication

Documents describing announced changes to Laws shall be maintained and accessible on the Kingdom website for at least ten years after their original publication.
